Real quickly, here's how I do it for my trimix dives (5 regulators: primary
bottom, backup bottom, primary nitrox, backup nitrox, oxygen):

Bottom mix comes over left shoulder through ODINs, nitrox comes over right
shoulder through ScubaPros. Backup bottom mix is on a 5' hose with a
yellow plastic second stage, and is attached to the D-ring on my left
harness strap with a snorkel-keeper (one loop of the keeper wrapped around
itself on the D-ring, the other stretched over the mouthpiece of the
regulator). This attachment system allows me to easily yank it off if I
need it. Primary bottom mix is on a normal-length hose and has a black
plastic 2nd stage (even at 475', it's easy to distinguish black from
yellow). I hold it in my hand on the descent (nitrox as travel mix), and
clip it off to my waist strap on ascent. Primary nitrox is a ScubaPro G250
(round plastic) 2nd-stage and is attaced to the D-ring on my right harness
strap with a snorkel-keeper. Backup nitrox is a ScubaPro D-350 (palstic
triangularish) 2nd stage and is clipped to my waist strap with a brass
clip. O2 is an old Scubapro Mk-V (metal round...present "Balanced Adjustable"
2nd stage is similar and better) that is attached to the back-mounted O2
pony bottle with elastic bands to there is no way to accidently grab it in
a stressful situation at depth.

If I wanted tactile differences between the primary and backup bottom mix
regulators, I'd probably put a few large cable ties around the primary
second stage.

Aloha,
Rich
