As for regulator markings here's what I use and seems to work well: Bottom mix: (in back mounted doubles) two odin regulators (black) with octopus attached via neck ring just under my chin. I breath off of either a 5' or 9' hose depending on environment. Intermidiate Deco mixes (in stages- either 80s or 72s): Often odins (red or yellow), however I keep the regs mounted on the stage so not to confuse them with my bottom mix. O2 (in an OMS 45): cyclone reg with surgical tubing around mouthpiece. The surgical tubing has to be removed in order to breath from the regulator. All regs are written on with their contents. As mentioned in earlier posts in is vital not to rely on color alone, or placement for that matter. Feel of the regulator in your hands and feel of the mouthpiece in your mouth is the best way to eliminate those nasty U/W convulsions from improper gas switches. Having stumbled upon a diver at 70' convulsing with an o2 reg in his mouth, I have learned to make gas switches with the utmost care in identification. If in doubt of your ability, get in all your gear, find an indoor pool that you can hog, and turn out all the lights while you switch gasses in the dark. (A blacked out mask can be substituted). Works great for students just learning to use stages. -Pete Goutmann
