I couldn't agree more! ALWAYS be skeptical of the person who claims there is a right way or a wrong way for equipment configuration. Instead, get as many ideas from as many different people as you can (for example, Phil Sharkey told me about the snorkel-keeper idea), and decide for yourself which ideas work well for you and which do not. Also, the point of experimenting with new configurations in shallow water first is an *extremely* important one. Another good idea is to try *one* new thing at a time. This requires a lot of shallow dives, but in the long run, it's worth it! I have done about 5 times as many shallow dives in my mixed gas rig as I have done deep dives. Just my 2 cents...
