Michael,

I ask a LOT of dumb shit ass-backwards retarded
questions on this list but even I can see that this
one is a no-brainer.

I don't see why this is SO complicated. If you don't
know where you'll be diving just bring air and keep it
around 100'. Or bring trimix and keep your PPO2 below
1.2. If you blow your NDL (unplanned deco... great
idea) then bring a pony of O2 and hang. If you're
diving solo off your boat you're a little wacked in
the first place but it'd be a good idea to also bring
a pony of non-hot mix to bail out on (and an EPIRB so
you can be rescued when your boat drifts away).

I lived on a 27' sailboat for 5 years in Boston...
space is an issue but you're not diving the fucking
Doria... this shouldn't require planning the next
Apollo mission. Who gives a fuck if you don't have
the IDEAL mix for the dive... just keep the PPO2 < 1.2
and the EAD < 100ft.

The DIR fruit cakes don't have any more gear than the
poodle jacket wackos - in fact - they probably have a
lot less. If captains are getting their panties in a
bunch over the "long" hose or over a fucking stage
bottle then they're in the wrong business... all it
takes is some shit for brain idiot toxing out on his
EAN39 pony bottle at 130 feet to ruin his "we've never
lost a diver" reputation for good.
