Todd: << One man reach everybody? It'll never happen, and it's an absurd burden to lay on the shoulders of anyone >> I'm not sure the intention is to LAY it on one person as much as it has been TAKEN UP by one person. Even a cursory reading of the technical mailing-list will quickly conclude that the Directorship of the WKPP thinks they are the cat's meow when it comes to diving knowledge. They are the end all, be all, and Pearl of Great Price. When those kinds of dynamics are set up, it no longer becomes a burden of giving, it has already become an issue of taking (legitimately or not). << An abrasive style may well be necessary to reach that second group. >> Or lose that second group. I would encourage a brief education in relationship marketing to see the folly behind this reasoning. The results are well-established in the industry and are available for anyone's study. << Anyone foolish enough to let their annoyance with one man deter them from listening to any of the myriad of messengers was in the third group to begin with, a lost cause >> Actually, that is not the case at all. Human psychology rarely works on the premise in which you purport. Each of us are highly influenced by the interpersonal dynamics of the way a message is delivered. There are very few exceptions. Our wives, our boss, our neighbors; in each case the way something is said or asked of us determines the degree to which it will be accepted or acted upon (much less listened to). << Look at the results! More people are talking about DIR then ever, more are adopting it >> Makes you wonder how many more (and I give Mr. Irvine respectful credit for accomplishments thus far) would be talking or adopting it if more statesmanship were involved, doesn't it? We don't need a Dirty Harry trying to promote technical safety, we need a Collin Powell (this is not a political comment) that is not only a strong and confident leader, but has the reputation and interpersonal skills of a statesman in which to codify the differing factions involved.
