Thank you for your well-balanced post.    You captured the essence of today
quite nicely.    If the goal is actually to increase the safety of the technical
community, than some interpersonal changes may be in order.   If that is not the
goal, however, than the proof will show itself in a continued lascidasical (or
defensive) approach to this important area.
