My suggestion, based purely on my own experience is to figure out the heaviest you could possibly be and add it up. My personal setup: steel backplate - 6# negative double OMS 85's - -14+ # negative when full (usually, they're overfilled, not sure exactly how negative) 40 cu. ft. aluminum sling bottle -1# negative when full MLS light -- 1 1/2 # negative wrecking tools -- up to 7# negative 6 cu. ft. aluminum argon bottle - 1# negative when full (Note: I don't wear any weight because the backplate is sufficient even if my tanks are empty and I am carrying no light, argon or wrecking tools -- even in salt water) --------------------- Total 31 pounds or less (depending on wrecking tools, if any) (This does not count misc. accessories with un-measured buoyancy characteristics, such as reel(s), lift bag, back-up lights, goody bag, etc.) I did the math. Based on the reasonable assumption that I am not *personally* 14# negative, the 45# wings should have more than enough lift. And (much to my relief) I was right -- even with a flooded drysuit, the halcyon 45# wings were *more* than sufficient.
