>I have personally been involved in body recoveries for 4 technical divers in >the last 8 months. In each case, the deaths occurred largely due to >misdirection which has allowed these people to believe that their own gear >configurations and proceedures were fine. The bondage wings, the 4 steel >98's with wetsuits, the lack of real Buddy team training, this and much more >are all major violations of common sense, things we have been addressing for >ages now. Wrolf is blocking this message with his misdirections Dan, Wrolf didn't kill those bodies you like to boast about recovering. Odds are they never had heard of him, or even of this list. They were killed either by their own incompetence, or by the mainstream tech agencies that certify incompetent instructors, and by the mainstream dive shops that sell tech gear without having any understanding of the special risks it can involve. Spending as much time as you do here, you have understandably begun to feel that techdiver is the whole world, and that for DIR to win the world, all it has to do is dominate techdiver. But it isn't. The people here know the score. Those who might have been temporarily misguided (though I find it ludicrous to think of anyone being misguided by poor Wrolf's meanderings) by Wrolf or other dissenters in the end are brought round, their understanding strengthened not weakened by their exposure to both sides. If you truely want to fight a sport-wide battle against Doing It Wrong, then you, and your allies (of which I count myself one) have to go beyond this list, and start taking on the big guys. Just hitting the little guys harder and harder isn't the same. >Wrolf has a voice >equal to George, to you, to me, to Zero, or to Bill Mee, basically, to the >reporter, there is no discrimination as to what opinions are "better". The >public will hear both sides of any arguement, and think each side must be >valid. Not so - he does on open forums like techdiver, to an extent, but even here he does only to the extent that he can establish his credibility, which he has not been able to do. But on merit based forums he has no voice at all - which is why if you and WKPP truely want to change the world you shouldn't be wasting so much time here, but should be moving on to other forums, like magazines articles and dive show seminars. These are forums that would enhance your prestige and credibility instead of undermining it the way your (Dan's, not WKPP) attempts at censorship and self-indulgent flights of twisted logic do here. So far, you seem to have been remarkably unsucessful at this - I get a feeling that when George does get scheduled, it is more likely to be as a novelty act than a serious presentation. Which is a damn shame considering how much he has to share. >I know for a fact insurance underwriters ARE reading tech diver posts---I >have this from absolutely reliable inside the industry information. This is another typical Volkerism, a straw man varient on your "people are being killed" line, where you try to raise the stakes by claiming inside knowledge, to inflate your own importance, and validate you claim that you alone should be able to decide what can be said here. >You place an unfairly large burden on DIR proponents, I don't place any burden at all on DIR proponents. It's purely their choice if they want to compete in the world of ideas and, and they are free to skulk away or take the battle to another forum if they don't like this one. I'm only pointing out that if you want the change the way diving is done, you can't come here and say that the issue is so important that you don't have to play by the rules everyone else plays by - most notably, free speech - and that it's OUR responsiblily to change them to suit YOU, so you can get on with the work of saving our souls on your terms. But this is what you have been saying, with your endless stream of belabored foxhole, and drug pusher metaphors. I can't help but suspect that one of the reasons you have been so unsucessful at getting DIR wider exposure is that this insistance, which plays weakly here, won't play at all on wider, merit based forums. >I have made no >"religious" categorizations Another time. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
