"Bever Fever" as it's called is a parasitic infection, athough it is 
treatable in early stages antibiotics have no effect.  Also the Giardia 
parasite is passed to man through the feces of beavers hence the name and 
attacks the brain and nervous system.  Since you had an intestianl 
complaint it is more likely you simple picked up an incompatable strain 
of E. coli, which would have been corrected by antibiotics.
