As someone living on the Nigaara Peninsula that seperates Lakes Onatario, 
and Erie I can asure you that that does not hold up.  Lake Onatrio 
surface temps are almost always colder then Lake Erie.
When compared witht the total volume of the lake, the input through the 
Niagara River(about 200' outside my kitchen window) is insignifficant 
when it comes to tempurature.
Lake Erie being much shallower goes not have the "reservoir" of cold that 
the much deeper Lake Ontario has.
