Personally, if I'm in the water, and my (buddy) shall we say, is on shore, or in a boat overhead, is a diver, knows my dive plan, therefore knows when and where I expect to surface. I don't consider that Solo diving, and do it all the time. However, to me solo diving is when no one knows where I am, or the (buddy) on the surface is a non-diver. Then to me that is solo diving and I never do it nor would I ever consider doing it. When in the water without a buddy in the same body of water I tend to be more cautious, stay shallower and less likely to push the limits.
