I have seen this too often to mention. Doubles, redundant wings,
drysuit, light, etc, etc, all in the name of looking techie, when a
single alu 80, ow bc, and wetsuit would make the dive safer and much
 more enjoyable.

I think is is becoming a trend to OVERGEAR on any wreck/deep dive.

Charles,

To some extent I agree with you. The "tech look" is becoming
fashionable. There are divers over equipping themselves for easy dives.
However, there are exceptions. A wise diver, new to doubles, should make
some acclimation dives in a local, familar location. When significant
changes are made to the gear configuration, or new gear is added, a couple of
easy practice dives are again an excellent idea.

Now, if this was the motivation of the diver I reported on, he
made a significnat mistake, in my opinion. If you're going to try out a new
drysuit, find some water that is at least chilly. Regardless of motivation,
the diver in question exposed himself to excessive dehydration and heat
exposure maladies. His choice of exposure protection increased his level of
risk for the dive

I hope he was just trying out some new gear. If so, surely he
recognized the faults of the helmet mounted lights. He instantly reminded
me of a cover photo that appeared on "Dive Training" a few months
earlier.........hmmmmm, speaking of one of the worst
conf......................<g>

Thanks for sharing your thoughts,

Bob D.
