Juha, No mercury has been found on US U-boat wrecks, it has been often rumored = though. This stems from a U-boat in transit to the Far East was = carrying mercury as cargo to Japan and at the conclusion of the war was = directed to a US port to surrender. The mercury was noted aboard and = everyone now thinks every sunken U-boat has mercury. The Germans did experiment with the use of mercury as a trim system in = one or two developmental subs but it was found not to be viable. Respectfully, Jay K. I'm new to this list, just joined today. Got the address = from my=20 buddy Reima Raty. I was happy to hear that this list existed, and=20 especially happy to read the info included in joining message. I for=20 one didn't like the awful info/flak ratio at techdiver.=20 And I have a question for you u-boat wreckers: I've heard of this substance called "red mercury" that has been found=20 in u-boat wrecks off the east coast of U.S & Canada. What is this=20 stuff, what was it used for in U-boats of Deutsche Kriegsmarine, and=20 do you know if submarines of any other navies contained this stuff? Thanks, Juha=20 +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+= -+ Please send messages for the WreckDiver list to: = wreckdiver@wreckdiver.com Send subscription and help requests to: = wreckdiver-request@wreckdiver.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+= -+ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Please send messages for the WreckDiver list to: wreckdiver@wreckdiver.com Send subscription and help requests to: wreckdiver-request@wreckdiver.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
