Subject: Re: wreck diving tools
hey paul do you think all the artifact are laying out on the wreck neatly
marked so that anyone swimming by will see them?
most of the stuff is buried, covered over with silt. finding & recovering
them is a skill. most divers never see any of them & if they were looking
right at it they would miss them.
in our ares there are wrecks that are visited by thousands of divers a year.
these wrecks are over 75 years old. there is nothing of archeological
significance on any of them. so if i go inside a wreck to a spot no more than
a few divers would even venture into & take an artifact for my pleasure & the
pleasure of others that will get to see it due to my recovering it, then so
be it.
Your remark about the reasons I(i take your statement personal) collect
artifacts as being bullshit is itself just that(bullshit).
do you believe in archeology as being the PURE science. if you belive that
then you are either blind ,stupid or just plain dumb. the archaeologists have
been scamming the public with this crap for years. they get away with it
because they have convinced the mindless ones that they are the only ones
that should be entrusted with the "sacred duty".
well how blind are you - why is it that so many of the high valued treasures
from the tombs wound up in the PRIVATE HOMES of the people who were the
contributors to the "digs" around the world. why is it that less than 10% of
the finds are ever viewed by the public? How many pieces of eight does it
take to have enough information to show how & where they were made? i could
go on & on about the misuse of power that has always been in the hands of the
wealthy that have pushed these views, but i am a realist.
i know that they have the press & the government on there side & will
probably win this battle . so for the time being any time i come across an
artifact & it is legal for me to take it i will. when they stop me from doing
it in one place i will go to another. i will never give my things to a Museum
unless it was going to further the cause of diving & the understanding of the
value of recovering artifacts.

if you wish to call me names for my "vice" than go ahead.

pillage on & on hank

You guys obviously do things a little differently over there, but I have to
ask,
why this urge to destroy? Don't try to kid me with the preservation
nonsense, you don't save the tiger by having it stuffed & mounted in your
den.
I've seen the arguments...If I don't take it someone (some other asshole)
will...We can display it for others to see (yeah, right on your
 mantlepiece)...I'll leave it to a museum when I die...If it's left it'll
only
rot away. All bullshit. What about the person who dives the wreck tomorrow
or
next week? What do they see? What natural habitats do you destroy with your
 crowbars and hammers?

A wreck, like a cave or a reef has become a natural environment. Leave it to

it's natural process. Enjoy it now for what it has to offer and leave it's
future development for others to see. Go buy a porthole if it looks that
good
over your fire. YOU'VE seen it for real...YOU'VE been there...that's enough.

When you dive a reef, why not snap off a bit of coral on the way past, after
all
the parrot fish will only get it eventually...and those speleothems are
bound to
get eroded sooner or later, on your next cave dive, just help yourselves.

 Regards
