I am not even going to get into the debate over taking stuff or not.. it is an exercise in futility the people on the two sides of the issue will never agree.if you want to study the andra doria her sister ship the christoforo columbo is still around if the haven't melted her down after 40 years in service she will be a bargain go buy her from the italia line restore her and have a floating museum for the public,guess who will pay to visit . this started out as a discussion on how and what carry in the way of tools when wreck diving. not on the morality of collecting artifacts...the fact is no one except us and a few government archeologist bureaucrats even care about this stuff, the bureaucrats only care because they want to deprive us of the stuff or the fun of looking for and the anticipation of getting stuff and.... hope that there is a future gold mine of tax funded grant money so they can endlessly drag out and milk a well paid career out of doing what we pay to go do recreationaly on the thousands of obscure wreck sites . Just because a ship sinks doesn't make it a cultural treasure , it sank ....people have fun taking stuff off of tugs and fishing vessels and oil tankers and cruise ships many of which have working floating counterparts that the dam bureaucrats can study to there hearts content with out getting wet. i don't go around taking stuff off historic protected wrecks ether.
