Reference: To line or to progress? Answer: Both No matter how familiar I am with a wreck, I ALWAYS run a line. For all I know, some other diver may follow me in and silt out the place. No matter how familiar I am, the silt can ruin your whole life. On the other hand, lines can also break -- especially if you're trying to work fast and haven't had a lot of experience with it. Redundancy is good and, in this case, the redundancy for familiarity is the line and the redundancy for the line is familiarity.
