I think both running a line and progressive penetration have their place, and with good training and some experience, a diver will learn to recognize which method is best suited to a particular situation. The inside of a shipwreck is _very_ different from the inside of a cave, and I don't believe that cave diving rules can be blindly applied across the board to wreck diving. I don't think wreck diving rules work across the board, either, as there is a lot of variation in conditions depending on where you're diving and the condition of the wreck. That said, I've found small strobes (Trident has one that takes a single "C" battery) to be useful in wreck penetration. They're not a substitute for either guideline or progressive penetration, but they can serve as an aid to navigation, clipped off at strategic points (doorways, openings, corners) within the wreck to serve in a "backup brain" capacity in case you do get away from your line and/or disoriented. >P.S. Are there any good wrecks left to dive in 70ft?
