  (1) That great long tube to the surface doesn't seem very stealthy to me!
  (2) If the tube is not compressible, the pressure inside it will be much
less than depth pressure once it has a fair amount of exhaled air in it, i.e.
it will act as a suction dredge and risk damaging the diver and his equipment,
i.e. the idea `sucks' in both senses of the word. A rebreather is much safer.

  (a) Some people say that Transpaks suck. I leave that flamy matter unjudged.
  (b) A small naval suction-dredger-submarine used as an unseen patroller near
things underwater that they don't want civilians to see, also sucks, but in
another sense. All most people see is that great 4-foot-diameter steel suction
tube shot at them from beyond the underwater visibility limit. (I speak of
usual UK undersea visibility.) If its ultrasound gun doesn't get them first.
