you aren't hunting salmon, now are you...?

if you plumb the exhaust of a reg to the surface, then it will 
free-flow and (even worse!) your lungs will be sucked out your mouth (unless 
you had a reliable no-return valve as commercial hose divers use on 
supply). all surface supply should use such a device (except your 
pnuemo-fathometer....)

if you want surface supply/exhaust you probably need continuous flow 
rather than demand-valve gas supply.

you may find that a bubble dispersion device will make your exhaust 
stealthier. try a cheese cloth bag, with a weight inside.
