I think I've pinned down the difference between cavers and 
techdiver.  Everybody that complains about it, read on:

it takes a lot of training and some serious skill to be a cave 
diver.  alas cavers...

everybody that wants to be thinks they're a technical diver.  
there are no prerequisites.  alas techdiver...
