I have heard the following concerning young children and diving: until they reach a level of maturity that allows them to learn what they need to know to dive safely, let them dive their age while under supervision. 6 years old => 6 feet (2m), 10 years old => 10 feet (3.3m), etc. In this manner they may participate with you at appropriately safe sites, but on a level that minimizes any risk. And yes, I realize that it is customary to snorkle those depths. I am assuming that the kids in question know how to swim and snorkel proficiently! But I would also think that if you've got the type of kid that likes playing with matches and gasoline, maybe they should stick to the safer activities like lawn darts, go-carts, mini dirt bikes, or contact sports. ;-) In case of accident I am absolutely not liable for any of the above.
