My kids (8 & 9), both learned to snorkel at 6&7 respectively. They started snorkeling in the open ocean (Cancun, Isla Majures, Roatan, Monterey) at 7&8. My oldest wants to begin scuba certification as soon as she's 12, and wants to begin abalone diving this season. I intend to limit her to 30ft in warm water until he's at least 16, assuming she hasn't clubed me with something before then ;). Both are very strong swimmers and are learning to surf.
