Paul At least in the states, PADI now requires higher standards for instructors. PADI USA now demands that all instructors be human beings. (For those of you who don't know, there's an apocrypahl story about an instructor getting his dog certified as OWSI back in the 1970s.) I can't speak for all PADI IEs everywhere in the world. At my IE, I passed because of significant PADI divemaster and SSI DiveCon experience with classes coupled with hours and hours of hanging submerged and motionless just for the hell of it. Because of my IDC, I received superior scores; without previous experience in classes on both sides of the rail I don't know how I could have done it. And lemme tell ya, there were some unprepared students and some jokers in my IE. I wanted to take them to the side and say "do THIS if you plan to pass." Of course, my IDC folks were arguably tops in their field -- Karen and Ralph Erickson. Jim Strohm PADI OWSI 51985
