Isn't 3/16" (5mm) one of the standard thicknesses for wet suits?  I
bought (12+ years ago) a 3/16" suit (high waisted pants and long
sleave top) from Harvey's and also had a full 3/16" jumpsuit custom
made by Xcel in Hawaii.

When doing dive support at a marine biology institute, we used a clip
board with thin ( <= 1mm ), white plastic sheets as a writing surface.
Material might have been specifically made for wet/dry note taking,
but not sure.  Also sort of recall using some version of a mechanical
pencil.  Probably can secure the pencil under the clip when not being
used.
