I don't want to start a seasickness rememdy 'flame' war like occasionally occurs on Rec.scuba, but I do have a specific question regarding the use of Transderm Scop (transdermal scopalomine patches) and deeper diving. I've been using Transderm Scop for several years successfully without any adverse reactions other than dry mouth, but all dives <= 100 ft depth. On Monday I was involved in a training dive using Nitrox I (F02 .32) at 100 ft in Monterey. Conditions were horrible due to a heavy phytoplankton bloom; visibility was only 3-4 ft. I became quite narc'ed and really don't remember much of what occured on the bottom. Activity level and gas consumption were quite low. My head cleared out fine at ~50 ft during the accent. Second dive to 92 ft on Nitrox II (F02 .36) was performed 1 1/2 hrs later with no impairment. I've dove several times in the 120-130 ft range on air without significant narcosis problems (but no Scop patch). Does anyone have any knowledge of adverse reactions to Transderm Scop and diving in the 100 ft. + range, on air or other gas mixes? Your input would be greatly appreciated in trying to sort out some of the variables. Thanks, Mike Chalup Internet: chalup@pr*.ig*.co*
