Just to stick an oar in, I would point out that copyright law varies throughout the world. In the USA, I believe, a document is not copyright unless the author explicitly includes a copyright notice. However, under English law, all documents are automatically copyright, whether or not they have a copyright notice, unless the author explicitly renounces their copyright. Which law applies to a message I transmit from England, travelling over the internet all over the world, to a list server in a second country, then retransmitted all round the world again, and is then read by someone in a third country, and so on, will no doubt keep lawyers busy for some time. However, if the message is reprinted without permission in a magazine, and this magazine is sold/ published in England, I rather think that the English publisher/ importer would be vunerable in respect to those copies sold in England. No doubt all the international lawyers lurking on tech-diver will correct any mistakes :-)
