The BS-AC recommended limit is 50m, for full trained divers. However, there are
quite a few clubs/ people diving 60m+ on air, and have been for some while. At
least one group where diving 60m (on air) in the 1960's.

Most (air) diving is done on computers, with the Alladin Pro/ Monitor 2 being
the
most common, but with a good number of Suunto's. Computers started being used
in
large numbers when the original 'black' Alladin came on the market.

The BS-AC have adopted several tables over the years as their 'official' ones.
When I first started diving in the early 1970's, the old Royal Navy tables were
in use, then the BS-AC/ RNPL tables came in, and lastly the BS-AC 1988 tables.
However, the RN and BS-AC/RNPL tables had great penalties on repeat diving, so
US
Navy and Buhlman tables were used by many. The first Bulhman tables I saw/ used
were brought back from Switzerland by a club member in the late 1970's. Few
sports divers now use tables.

Two hour minimum surface intervals are generally used for sports diving, with a
'main' dive to say 30m-50m and a second dive to 10m-20m. However, most serious
deep divers gave up second dives quite some years ago, as they were generally
held to be rather too likely to produce decompression sickness after a major
first deep dive.

Things have almost gone round a full circle. A lot of my diving, down to about
60-65m, is on air with 3 litre side tanks of Nitrox 50 and 100% oxygen for
decompression. The N50/oxygen drastically reduces the decompression times, but
there are no computers yet which can handle two independent tanks of air plus
nitrox plus oxygen, so I am back to using tables. I have generated my own
tables
using ProPlanner software.
