I just want to add that experience provides another important component besides repetition of certain tasks: It provides opportunities to test oneself in stressful (not necessarily life-threatening) situations. Successful outcomes of such situations provides self-confidence (not to be confused with "over-confidence", which may also result in less-disciplined individuals).
