My opinion is that Ntx80 was championed by IANTD, for the purpose of lureing divers away from 02, and into IANTD facilities for fills and certification to breath 20% less N2 on deco. While the advantages seem good in theory, I think they are more a product of computer narcosis. 1.6 ata of pure 02 has an exellent safety record, and the number of safe exposures on 02 far exeeds those on Ntx80. Remember, you can't just apply po2 tolerance for pure 02 to mixed gas. They are distinct entities. <stop> Please expound upon the statement "Remember, you can't just apply po2 tolerance for pure 02 to mixed gas." Also, some advantages to 80 % are using a compressor to top off the bottle if you want a full fill and don't have low pressure tanks or money to buy them. OTUs are also reduced significantly with 80 %, which will allow you to do more dives to certain depths for longer mud puppy times in some situations. I fully beleive that you sould have 100% available that can go down for IWR or for emergency situations where having a spare bottle down for divers doing a stop who are short on gas will prevent IWR. If you only have one tank or some other restriction that prevents having backup O2 tanks and submersable regs or 2nd stages, think strongly about waiting to do the dives that might require it till you do have enough redundacy/emergency tanks-*please*.
