From: ddrake01 About the oil filters for compressors. How clean are these? Can I put one between my tank and the whip so that I keep oil out of my O2 clean cylinders? Will my tanks stay clean enough to safety fill them with 100% O2? I understand that there is and will always be danger when filling tanks with compressed gas of any sort. I'm just trying to get my deco time down safely. On to manifold or not to manifold: >In a previous discussion of isolation manifolds, I said I didn't want one >because the need to shut-off the isolation valve in the event of a failure >bothered me - what if I was prevented for some reason from doing this >quickly enough? Ronnie Bell (I think) said just leave the isolation valve >slightly open, and the rate of gas loss from the OK cylinder would be very >low. It occured to me afterwards that an automatic shut-off valve, that >isolated the cylinders if a sufficiently high pressure gradient developed, >probably would not be hard to do. I can sympathize with the need to break down cylinders. But I would think that having an isolation valve would allow for saving more gas than just one tank in two. For example: <snip> said just leave the isolation valve slightly open, and the rate of gas loss from the OK cylinder would be very low. It occured to me afterwards that an automatic shut-off valve, that isolated the cylinders if a sufficiently high pressure gradient developed, probably would not be hard to do. Neal <snip> Question: how do you know if the valve is just slightly open? It could be closed or more than some open. If you barely open the valve during filling so a pressure differential is noticeable, then you create a complication filling. Do you mark the knob position? If you want to engineer and manufacture an aftermarket automatic valve, I wish you good luck and lots of sponsors. A flow restrictor like the partially open valve is a more likely alternative, but note the fill problem. Some Poseidon 1st stages have them on some LP ports. Let me know how it turns out.
