Primarily, you should be quite familiar with the positioning of each reg for each mix and familiar with their prompt retrieval in any case. This happens to be because many people have many different methods they use to configure their systems. For example, I always carry my O2 for deco as the "third" bottle (one to my furthest right) in a triple carry system and fasten the reg (which is attached to a fairly lengthy hose so to promote a comfortable relay under my arm.) to the bottle using surgical tubing. All my regs have some distinct character about them, whether it be make or color, etc. but in a configuration I previously used (a quad) I attached all my regs to quick clips for access via my BC. Two of my regs were of same brand (trusty ol SE2's) so it was hard to tell the color of the paint markings I placed on the housing at depth. Needless to say, I needed to aleviate any confusion. Several days later I went to a friends house and noticed a box of neon yellow metal marking tags he used to ID parts shipped at his business (microscopes). I noticed that they fastened well with a spot of solder and pinch from some needle nosed pliers. And they were small too (3/4" with the 'tail end' cut") which seemed a plus at the time. I used 1 tag for primary bottom, 2 for secondary and 3 for deco mix. I could find my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th regs by feel, but would easily be able to tell by sight which mix I was using by the no. of tags. The configuration I have used the past several years now is much more refined than the above and suits me much better to give that 'without a doubt' edge. You could probably use tape and mark the hoses by no. of wraps just as well.. but something so simple didn't really occur to me then (duh).
