I strongly recommend that folks read Dr. Kenneth Donald's _Oxygen and
the Diver_ which goes into great (and interesting) detail on the
oxygen breathing programs of the US Navy, Royal Navy, and others.  

In it he gives a convincing picture of the unpredictability of CNS O2
toxicity, and the routine predictability of pulmonary O2 toxicity.

I'd go so far as to say "don't dive pure O2 without reading that book!"
It's not too expensive, either, only around US$40 from Best Publishing.
