Hi LL
I have no problem maintaining deco stops, line or not. I prefer to have a
line and like to put out a johnline, this is not because I can't hold my
stop, but because of the number of deaths from divers who tox or other and
then sink, that offers almost no chance for survival.

During the DIR fundamentals every ones gear was totally rearranged, if this
was not enough to mess you up some, then you were asked to do skills in a
way never done before, the whole class is designed to show you a different
way of doing things and make you feel like you fail (there is no pass or
fail in that class). I have never attempted doing a deco stop with no mask
on before, very hard if you have never practiced it or even attempted it
before. When ever I had a mask problem before my answer to it was put my
spare mask on, problem solved.

Divers have been diving for years and doing things that those with the very
best skills now could never do, they were just taught different to what is
becoming the normal way now.
