Hi Les: Your points are valid but the problem is a big one. I do not know what the teaching standards are but certainly if you are doing 3 and 400' dives you should be able to do a drifting deco with ease. Lack of basic skills on the part of the divers coupled with big ego's and stubborn operators all exacerbate the problem. Anchored in, the captain doesn't have to work as much. From the divers view, the line represents security, a Linus's blanket so to speak. There is little incentive to change because it is more perceived work for the Captain and the big ego'd dives might look awkward at first. BUT definately not all of them. My tech career began with being trained to shoot a lift bag while kneeling on the bottom! and holding onto the line while decoing. Drifting for deco was out of the question! and if the standards don't require it then what's to say anone is not teaching it right? > > I don't think I have ever kneeled on the bottom since that class so I'm not quite sure what good it did me. Honestly i'd rather bury this but I thought it important to share because the information might just alert new people should they be missing out on something very important in their classes. > > Perhaps this would be a really good skill to get specific about and include in all the S&P's out there, :-). > > LL > (recovered line dangler) > > -- > Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. > Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'. > > -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
