This is a dangerous statement. Co-located individuals do not a = buddy team make. What we have here is two individuals who have talked = about their respective dive plans, and chosen to conduct them = concurrently. Each of them had a different dive objective, had = different life support systems that their counterpart may or may not = have had more than passing familiarity with, and neither of them planned = to keep the other under observation during critical or task loaded = phases of the dive, namely descent and deco ("25 minute planned bottom = times, with total run times of 107 minutes and 121 minutes", "Eric was = to shoot his own bag" ). On top of this, there was no support. = Dropping down the same shot line doesn't mean you are paying close = enough attention to the other guy to make a damn of difference. It does = not=20 >matter if it is a camera, video camera, or gear to collect fish. Those=20 >divers should lead as this extra gear puts them at risk. The weakest = diver=20 >should also always goes first. Well, I partially agree with this part, but...If the dive would have = been conducted as a "no shit" team effort, they both would have = monitored each other more closely for problems during descent, and the = rest of the dive, for that matter, and would have been diving the same = gear configuration so they would have been more capable of useful = assistance in the event of a problem. An occasional look over one's = shoulder doesn't cut it, especially when you're both diving different = pieces of crap stroke gear that require you to turn more knobs and = levers than the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. To Mike--I'm sorry you lost a friend. BUT, I'm even more sorry that = neither of you saw the writing on the wall early enough to stop this = nonsense. What bothers me even more--and I hope I'm wrong here--is the = fact that you will probably keep on doing the same shit until it catches = up to you.
