Not only to guaranty transfer of data, to help reconvalescent measures, but as well, and sometimes more important, to guaranty the compliance to standard treatment procedures. That means, as a competent buddy, you have to know the problems of the dive, the possible outcome of problems, the emergency procedures, and ! the way of dealing with non compliant rescue staff, be it a call to your attorney, or brute force ( imagine your buddy held in an ICU, when he needs HBO treatment.
