Howdy all, I've been lurking for a couple days and thought this was a fine time to say hello, seeing as I just noticed a worm hit my mailbox and it came from the TechDiver list. Specifically from this message: ==== From: "Bryon Bertrim" <bryon@be*.co*> To: <techdiver@aquanaut.com> Subject: Need Gunilda Team Members Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 09:45:39 -0400 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_011A_01C0FD5B.97EB37C0" X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4133.2400 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400 ==== The worm (virus) that came from Mr. Bertrim's machine to the list is: "KakWorm" It's a common email spamming worm that inserts itself into the signature lines of outgoing Outlook Express email. I doubt Mr. Bertrim knew what was happening. As far as I know, this virus is not going to kill your computer or delete your files, but if your anti-virus software didn't pick it up on the way in, you have it now and you will give it soon. I don't know how the list handles viruses in general, but in case anyone needs a hand, here are some tools to take care of this. You can learn about this worm and how to get rid of it manually here: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/wscript.kakworm.html You can aquire a easy little free tool to remove the worm automatically (try this first) here: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/wscript.kakworm.fix.html And then you can patch the gaping security hole in your Outlook Express here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ie/tools/scrpteye.asp Stay safe, - Gabe At 06:45 AM 6/25/2001 , Bryon Bertrim wrote: >This file: "Unknown0fba.data" was infected with: "WScript.KakWorm.dr" >virus.
