Bret Gilliam , who is the Technical Diving Editor of Rodale's Scuba Diving,
wrote an article in that magazine (pg 53 of April 2001) titled "Solo
Certification: It's Time. Will 'Solo Diver' be the new C-card you flash on
your next dive trip?" If they are not offering that class now I believe
they are setting themselves up to do that. Apparently from this article
they took an online pole: 57% of those poled said "yes" if they were
offered a solo diver certification they would take it. 26% said "no". 17%
said "who needs certification? I already dive solo."

Pre-requisites for the solo certification are:

-advanced diver certification
-min. of 100 logged dives
-approved physical examination.

Looks like they found a way to get more $$$.

  Subject: Solo classes

My nitrox classes were through TDI and although I do some solo diving. I
have set limits for my self to no greater than 30' and usualy only solo in
area's that are set up for classes like a local lake near me or a quarry. I
definately see the dangers in solo diving but I had heard that TDI offers a
class on solo diving. Is this true? I am takeing advice and working toward
trimix but I see on the list of classes for that progression is deep air. I
have heard that debate on hear before to and understand the mechanics of
using trimix and definately see the benifits. Where is a good place to go
from nitrox to doing timix and deco if deep air is not in my plans.

and again the other question just for my own curiosity does tdi and others
actually teach a solo class.
