No instructor or agency would ever say it was safe to dive past 200' on air and to go past 300' on air is beyond my comprehension. I know that there are some that will for the "Buzz" (shade of the 'Call of the Wa Wa' ) but there are also some who put a needle in their arms for the same reason. In both cases you can't help the person if they do not want help. In the case of the deep California death, I hear the first comments of "Who was the instructor" and "I bet I can guess what agency the got their cert from" what does it matter which agency or instructor - they were stupid and disregarded what they may have been taught. What would you say if someone had a GUE cert and did something as stupid as this? Some people can be instructed all day long every day and will still disregard what they have learned.
