For a good overview of Antarctic diving try this site:

http://scilib.ucsd.edu/sio/nsf/index.html

The vis depends on the season. Winter is best with the plankton bloom being
pretty bad in the summer. Most of the diving under the ice is done in the
southern spring when the ice is still solid but the plankton has not got
going yet

Now you can't just go there. To dive at McMurdo you have to be invited down.
If you just drop in you will get a very cold shoulder and told that the base
facilities are not available to un-approved nonscientific personal.

There are a few cruse lines running adventure trips down there from Chile or
Argentina. Try look in the outward bound type magazines.
