The term "offshore diving" in my original posting was meant to refer to dives that are greater than, say, 1 mile from shore. I did not mean to infer a trip abroad. Perhaps the terms "offshore wreck" and "inshore wreck" are colloquial expressions particular to New England? Wrecks like the Chester Polling, the Chelsea, and perhaps the Coyote are considered "inshore dives". Wrecks like the Andrea Doria, the Coimbra, the Texas Tower, or the USS San Diego are considered offshore dives. Nobody wants to be blown-off an offshore wreck at depth, initiate decompression while drifting in the current, and surface miles away from the moored dive boat. Obviously having flares available for signalling is a definate plus. I'm sorry for the confusion - I was certainly not advocating putting flares in luggage to be checked-in on an aircraft.
