Many thanks to everyone who replied to my query on preserving metals. Lots of great info. I've forwarded all the details on to our lab manager who'll probably be coordinating restoration work on the anchor. He's probably in the best position to know which techniques would suit us best. The reading I've done sofar may have identified another project too. A while back a visiting diver recovered some brass work (cover of a ships compass) from one of the local wrecks. This is currently on display in a local dive shop window. What I've read sofar suggests some preservation work may be required on this too (wasn't aware brass needed anything done to it). May be a good excuse to get hold of it for a while.
