Hi all,

Apologies for cross posting.

We've (School of RSM) just come into possession of an old admiralty anchor
that's being donated to our new marine studies centre in Coffs Harbour.
The anchor has apparently been placed in fresh water since it's recovery
but no preservation work has been carried out. Can anyone offer any tips
on preserving metal objects or point me in the direction of appropriate
references?

A consultant may be employed to restor the anchor but doing it inhouse
would be preferable. If nothing else it'd be an interesting exercise for
me to learn a little about preservation techniques, I'm always finding
interesting stuff around local wrecks but (apart from mapping where
artifacts are located) I generally prefer to leave anchors and other
artifacts where they lie.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon
