It's not an engineering problem... it's a maintenance problem... Take the friggin' boots off once in a while and clean the tanks! Just because they're the biggest, heaviest part of a rig, doesn't mean they're indestructible..... I don't use them at all....no matter how low profile the boot, it still provides a place to snag things.... that and I don't like having to remove them to rinse down after many dives, so just don't use them in the first place.... If a boat requires them, find another boat....or suggest other options to the Captain, Owner etc.... I've worked (and owned) many dive boats and never had a need for boots on tanks... Case E.
