Christopher, I occassionally experience a strained neck and subsequent headaches when diving in cold water because my hood is 7mm thick through-out. I tend to tilt my head back too far while looking straight ahead while finning forward. I don't experience the problem when I dive without a hood, which is very rare, since I'm diving high altitude lakes. I often have to tell myself to relax my neck muscles and don't fight the resistance of the neoprene. When I start the cycling season in early spring, I have the same problem again with neck strain and stress from spending too much time on the drops on longer rides. This will cause headaches as well. The problem disappears once my neck muscles are back in shape. Good luck!
