Dear John,
   I've used wing type BC's (Dive Rite/Seatec/others) for years and have yet 
to experience one deflation problem with them. Considering that most have 
dumps also, I can't imagine how one couldn't dump gas considering there is 
hydrostatic pressure  helping you all the time.  Did she forget to point 
herself in a direction where the gas could escape, or were there serious 
kinks in the hose and or, a clogged valve?
