Rob,
I would imagine that trying to cut new threads into the neck would
weaken it severely, increasing the chance that it will not
survive. Sherwood makes there standard K valve available for 1/2 pipe fit
threads but it is quite expensive. Save the money and the hassle and just
get another tank.
