Don't hold all members of Brand "X" training agency (or philosophy) in ill-regard just because some members of the same agency are (or have been in the past) idiots. If we do, then no agency has any credibility, and no training may take place, as no one will be allowed to make the mistakes from which we all learn. As Esat points out (I DID check standards) there is no requirement as to which air delivery device is passed. Most decent instructors (be they affiliated with brands X, Y, or even the little known brand Z) that I know teach passing the primary. It solves so many psychological, as well as logistical problems that any other way seems foolish. The fact that we're arguing over which is passed seems silly, as we all know how to do it. (BTW: I work for one of the largest Instructor training facilities in the country (at least as far as Brand X is concerned) and all of our candidates learn the reasoning behind either method of air sharing, and ALL of them choose to pass the primary.) As far as NAUI being in this game for a few months and now knowing all there is to know, I don't see that as the case at all. NAUI Tech has taken some rather bold steps in assuring that they include learning and knowledge from all of the major players in technical diving. Oh, and by the way, if you're wondering how behind the times and ignorant NAUI tech instructors can be, check out the new requirements for He based mixes below 130, the deco based on all He/O2 and ZERO N2, and the "radical" new deco theory which is beginning to look like He times can be (drum roll) shorter than N2/O2.... Now where have I heard all of this before? Certainly not in my TDI or IANTD classes! Bottom line: Who cares what letters are on your card? I sure don't. I just want to know that I'm dealing with someone who knows what they're doing. That has a lot more to do with who taught them than what agency issued the card, don't you think? *Sound effect of Case stepping down off of soapbox* My two bits worth, anyway! -Case Esat Atikkan wrote: > > For what it is worth - again w/o checking the > standards (bad boy slap on wrist, continue), not all > NAUI instructors subscribe to 'give the octopus' view > of OOA. > > Reasons, other than the panic & OOA diver will grab > the reg in your mouth approach is the issue of BC > integrated secondary regs - try giving that to an OOA > diver. > > As for NAUI CD running away - hate to C that happen as > their motto has been Safety Through Education or some > equivalent catchy phrase - running away from the > xchange of ideas & education R not compatible. > > Safe bubbles > > Esat Atikkan > > --- MHK <mhkane@pr*.ne*> wrote: > > > Well, I don't know what John had to say, but what > > does this have to do > > with > > > being a Course Director?
