Well, actually it does.  When diving, a redundant bottom timer
and depth gauge is important.  In DIR, both are on your buddy.
If you don't have a buddy, you don't have that redundancy.  If
you carry the backup timer and gauge yourself, you're altering
the gear configuration, hence it's not DIR by definition.
