I don't want this to turn into one of those "how many DIR angels can dance
on the head of a pin" threads, so I retract my statement that I am DIR in
any way.

I am enjoying adopting the DIR techniques and having dive gear that makes
sense. If you knew me, you would know that one of my pet sayings is "don't
reinvent the wheel". There have been so many humans doing so many things
for so long, that when you undertake any activity, the smartest thing you
can do is assess and absorb what the "state of knowledge" is for that
activity, rather than trying to figure it all out for yourself.

I will have some buddies coming around to DIR pretty soon, and then we can
be complete. In the meantime, my solo diving is non-deco, in areas of known
max depth, so my backup depth gauge is in my head, something GI might
appreciate...
